Iranian Gabbeh rugs are traditional, handmade wool rugs woven by nomadic tribes in southwestern Iran, particularly by the Qashqai, Luri, and Bakhtiari people. The word “Gabbeh” in Persian means “raw,” “natural,” or “unclipped,” which perfectly captures the rugs’ rustic and unrefined character. Originally created for personal use rather than commercial sale, Gabbeh rugs are deeply rooted in tribal life and express a high degree of individual creativity.
These rugs are entirely handmade using handspun wool from local sheep, and dyed with natural materials derived from plants, roots, and insects.
